Missing Soffit Insulation
Missing soffit insulation and lack of soffit baffles to divert soffit vent air around installed insulation can lead to moisture/mold issues in the attic. This is how missing insulation in the soffit area looks through a natural light camera lens:

This is how the same area looks through a infrared camera lens:
Here is a photo of the missing insulation as seen in the attic:
The insulation in the attic was pulled away from the soffit area to install baffles to allow air to pass from the soffit vent into the attic. Properly installed baffles allow air to enter the soffit vent, pass through the baffles and exit the attic through the upper roof vents. This keeps air flowing through the attic and gets rid of any warm. moist air in the attic which can lead to mold growth.
Below is a photo of properly installed soffit baffles in an attic:
Not only does attic insulation play an important role in maintaining a steady temperature in the attic, the soffit baffles are needed to carry air from the soffit vents , past the insulation and then out through the upper roof vents. Without this configuration warm moist air migrates from the interior of the home to the attic. If there is no ventilation in the attic, condensation forms on the attic surfaces and mold has an environment in which to thrive.
